ABOUT TARA
Tara is a lifelong musician and educator.
As a musician, Tara has been studying and playing music since the age of five. Tara grew up in a very musically talented family in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother taught Tara her first guitar chord! Although the guitar is her true love, Tara also is a singer, plays the ukulele, bass and dabbles in piano and drums.
Tara has been in many bands and musical projects that have gone on to produce albums, tour the U.S., and Europe. From folk to punk rock, Tara's eclectic taste in music has crafted her unique musical style.
As an educator, Tara is very kind, patient, creative, and fun!
Tara has over fifteen years of teaching experience. After graduating from college, Tara worked at a Montessori School from 2004-2014 where she was a second-grade co-teacher and a music enrichment class teacher.
Tara taught private and group guitar/ ukulele classes to various age levels and that quickly became her main job.
In 2014, Tara returned to New York to pursue her post-graduate studies in a Music Therapy Program at The New School. Tara feels very passionate about teaching music therapeutically. Over the years she has had the opportunity to support children and adults through the gift of music and most recently celebrated a twelve-year “guitariversary” with a client who has autism.
For the past eight years, Tara has been working at the Little Red School House in the West Village of Manhattan as an instrumental teacher (guitar and ukulele) and an administrator for the Summers at LREI camp program. She has created and led group classes such as “Rock Band”, “Karaoke Party” “Song Writing Unplugged” and “Music Sing-Alongs for 4-year-olds.” Tara has also directed a small summer band camp which she really would love to do again someday!
Tara currently teaches mostly online private lessons and Preschool music classes. She is hoping to reintroduce in-person lessons in 2023.
When Tara is not teaching, she is enjoying time with her family and playing outdoors in nearby Brooklyn parks with her three year old.
